Groundhog Day is a tradition observed in the United States and Canada on February 2 of every year starting in the 16th century. It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and sees its shadow, it will retreat to its den and winter will go on for six more weeks; if it does not see its shadow, spring will arrive early. We are celebrating Groundhog Day with a 2.2 Mile virtual race! Respect the shadow! Will it be 6 more weeks of winter?
The first week of February is also Congenital Heart Defects Awareness Week. We’ll be donating at least 15% from every registration to The Children's Heart Foundation, their mission is to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects (CHDs) by funding the most promising research.
What: This is a 2.2 mile virtual run (or walk).
When: Complete your race any time in February 2024.
Where: You choose the course and you time yourself (you’ll report your finishing time to us).
Why: Because this is our way of celebrating Groundhog Day!
