Family Art Saturday: Echoes of Home—Masks of Resistance
Join us on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 1–4 PM to create your own mask inspired by the Puerto Rican vejigante tradition!
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Vejigante masks are worn by Puerto Rican folkloric characters that serve as joyful symbols of resistance. As we decorate masks in this workshop, we will reflect on memories of home—whether it be a physical place or a shared cultural identity. By adding our personal nostalgic elements to the surface of the mask, we will craft an object that celebrates the power of memory to resist assimilation.
This event welcomes participants of all cultural backgrounds. Drop in anytime between 1–4 PM. No RSVP required!
