Drawing: Figure Sketching Wednesday Class at the Visual Art Institute
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Learn to draw figures from live models!
Join me to explore and create the beauty of the draped human form (non-nude) through multi-medium sketching and illustration. In a comfortable, professional setting, enhance your observation and craftsmanship skills, whether you're a novice or professional.
This class covers gesture, line, mass, form, volume, and fun techniques for drawing the human figure. Whether you're interested in realism, cartooning, or animation, you'll gain confidence through demonstrations, exercises, and self-guided work. Focus will be on sketching, shading, and understanding tone, with an emphasis on patience and "seeing" the form in detail.
12+ CLASS
SUPPLY LIST:
Large drawing pad(s) of sketch paper (18" x 24"). Note: "sketch" pads are cheaper than "drawing" pads and always have more paper in them! Michaels or WalMart are usually the least expensive.
Graphite pencils. 2-B and 4-B are recommended
A Blending stump. (they look like little paper cigars and usually come in a variety pack of sizes. They're cheap but invaluable!)
Kneaded Eraser
Hand held pencil sharpener (manual or battery/electric)
You may want to add color pencil and/or charcoal to your art box eventually, but we won't use those for the first 3 weeks at least as we will be focusing on graphite.

CLASS CANCELLATION:
We find that students learn better in larger groups. If we feel the number of registrations is too low to promote a good learning environment, we may cancel the class. In the event we cancel a class, we will reach out to you as soon as possible to come to a solution.
TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:
We try to make our classes as accessible to everyone as possible. We are able to offer a limited number of tuition assistance scholarships each term. You can complete an application on our website or call our office for assistance applying.
MULTI-CLASS DISCOUNT:
When you register for more than one class, you can receive a discount up to 10% per class!
ADA ACCESSIBILITY & ACCOMMODATIONS:
Our classrooms are ADA accessible. Some courses may involve tasks or activities that may be difficult for individuals with limited strength, difficulty bending over, and sitting or standing for long periods of time. We are happy to work with students to find solutions to make their experience positive and doable. For example, wheel throwing takes arm strength and bending over the wheel. Students may work on hand-building projects instead of throwing. Please reach out to our office to discuss your needs.
