Art of the Sun: Exploring Light, Process, and Environmental Media (Age 14-17)

In this course, students explore how light, shadow, and environmental elements can be used as creative tools in artmaking. Through projects such as shadow-based works, cyanotypes, suncatchers, and a collaborative glass mural, students will experiment with new materials and processes while developing an understanding of how art can be interactive, site-responsive, and connected to everyday spaces.

In this course, students explore how light, shadow, and environmental elements can be used as creative tools in artmaking. Through projects such as shadow-based works, cyanotypes, suncatchers, and a collaborative glass mural, students will experiment with new materials and processes while developing an understanding of how art can be interactive, site-responsive, and connected to everyday spaces. Emphasis is placed on exploration, collaboration, and translating environmental observation into visual form. Each student will also have an opportunity to display a selected artwork in an exhibition at the Department of Art & Art History at the end of the summer.
