This Is the Place Heritage Park - Utah
This Is The Place for 362 Days of FUN!
Utah Celebrates the founding of Utah and the West!
In July 1847, the first company of pioneers viewed the Great Salt Lake Valley from the mouth of Emigration Canyon. It was reported that Brigham Young who was ill in his carriage, raised up and gazed intently to the west. Then he said “It is enough, This is the right place. Drive on.”
Each July 24, throughout Utah, parades, celebrations and century old traditions mark the day which represents the pioneers’ freedom and a new beginning. This day honors the determination and hard work of the pioneers who made the difficult journey to Utah.
Pioneer Day wouldn’t be complete without a visit to This Is The Place Heritage Park! In addition to the everyday line-up of FUN, this special day celebrates the founding of UTAH with bonus activities and a focus on the rich culture and heritage of all who made contributions to the state’s development.
Young or old, there is something for the entire family to enjoy! The Candy Cannon heralds the day with a BANG, raining down old-fashioned taffy on Main Street when it fires away. The celebration wouldn't be complete without enjoying the everyday activities: panning for gold, riding ponies and trains, petting animals, enjoying art and craft projects, pulling handcarts, watching artisans at work and much more. Enjoy a parade, dancing in the streets and it’s bound to be hot, so cooling off at Irrigation Station is a must! Visit the Pioneer Children’s Memorial, the new This Is The Place Fort and the Pioneer Center to learn all about the westward expansion and its impact on history.
When guests need a novel treat, they can enjoy Brigham's Donuts along with Dole Whip icecream at the Social Hall. They will need to save a little room and see if they can triumph at the Annual Watermelon Eating Contest!
Guests can purchase a great lunch at the Huntsman Grill, or bring their own food and eat at one of the pavilions. Save time to shop at the Best Gift Shop West of the Mississippi, the ZCMI kid and Candy shop and the Rock and Gem Shop at the Treasure House. Everyone is welcome! Come prepared to learn a little history, have a lot of fun and take away new family memories!
