Virtual Spring Break Camp 2021 at Tracy Aviary

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 04/09/2021
This spring, Tracy Aviary is offering single-day, virtual spring break camps for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Our camps explore different springtime themes through crafts, activities, and behind-the-scenes videos of Tracy Aviary’s feathered friends. Spring Break Camps align with Salt Lake City, Granite, Murray, Canyons, and Jordan School Districts, but any K-5th graders are encouraged to join us! Because each day of the week is different, you are free to choose the camps that appeal to you and your child’s interests. We know outdoor play and learning is an important part of camp so we have structured our virtual programs with limited screen time and plenty of outdoor activities! Review and register for our virtual camp programming below.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Once you are registered, we will send you information on accessing camp materials. All camps are facilitated by Tracy Aviary educators and include the following:

  • 90 minute Zoom session (10-11:30am) for campers to socialize and see behind-the-scenes at Tracy Aviary.
  • Outdoor and non-screen-based projects that kids can work on at home.
  • Craft supplies available to pick-up at Tracy Aviary.
  • We estimate a day of virtual camp to be 3-4 hours, including the Zoom session and time for activities away from the computer. We recognize that each camper is an individual and that some activities may hold the interest of one child for a long time while another child may not be as engaged. For this reason, we have incorporated different types of activities throughout the week.
  • One free adult and one free child admission to visit the Aviary after camp.
  • An outdoor activity that can be completed at our Liberty Park or Jordan River Nature Center campus.

CAMP MENU

A Mess of Nests
Monday (March 29, April 5)
They weave, they burrow, they collect, they construct. From fashioning with feathers to molding with mud, birds are skilled artists at creating a safe haven for their little ones. Join us as we study the nests of our Aviary residents and then build our own creations!

Break Out of Your Shell
Tuesday (March 30, April 6)
Spring is all about eggs, with their spots, dots, flecks, and specks! Join us as we check out how birds raise their chicks from eggs to fledglings leaving the nest. We’ll observe real bird parents in action and get to test our own egg-tending skills.

Fowl Food Fiesta
Wednesday (March 31, April 7)
Worms and berries and algae—oh my! Whether it’s a meaty meal or a fruity feast, we will uncover all the mysteries of how birds get their food and what exactly they’re eating. Be prepared to test your bird food-finding skills and your taste buds with games, crafts, and kid-friendly recipes that are beak-lickin’ good.

High Flying Colors
Thursday (April 1, April 8)
Join us this spring as we explore the blue of a cuckoo’s egg, the red of a house finch, and the rainbow of a toucan’s beak in this art-focused camp. We will discover what color really means for birds with creative crafts, science experiments, and new friends, human and feathered alike.

Native Neighbors
Friday (April 2, April 9)
Spring is a time for new beginnings, from bright blossoms to chirping chicks. Learn how to attract new friends to your backyard and how to tell what they are once you see them! In this camp we will make bird feeders, play exciting games, and discover birds that live among us right here in Utah.
