Outdoor Adventures - Utah's Hogle Zoo
Want to get out into nature, but you’re not sure where to go or how to do it? Join Utah’s Hogle Zoo for a monthly outing to learn more about the world around us, get outside, and have some fun! We’ll bring the tools and information you need; you bring enough water to drink and the right clothes to enjoy a morning outdoors.

- January 5
Snowshoeing - We will be snowshoeing on the beautiful Wetland Discovery Trail at Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter near Park City. There will be an additional equipment rental fee.
- February 2
Bald Eagle Viewing at Farmington Bay - Don’t miss this chance to see our nation’s symbol by the dozens as they winter in Utah! This is a must on your Utah bucket list.
- March 2
Tundra Swan Viewing at Farmington Bay - We will be returning to Farmington Bay, this time to see tundra swans as they migrate through Utah.
- April 6
Mountain Goat Viewing in Little Cottonwood Canyon - Join us in Little Cottonwood Canyon to view the mountain goats that live on the canyon cliffs.
- May 4
Bonneville Shoreline Hike - Explore the Bonneville Shoreline on this easy hike from the Zoo to Red Butte Gardens and back! Learn about the history of the lake while getting a great view of the city!
- June 1
Tree Identification at the University of Utah - We will be joined by Barbara Gardener of Forestry Services LLC for a morning of tree identification at the University of Utah. Learn about the beautiful species living on campus and develop a new passion for trees!
- July 6
Art of Dutch Oven Cooking in Millcreek Canyon - Transform the way you cook outdoors by learning the skill of Dutch oven cooking! We will be cooking a meal as we show you the tools and techniques needed for cooking in a Dutch oven. There will be an additional fee exiting Millcreek Canyon.
- August 3
Archery at Rockport State Park - Join us at Rockport State Park’s 3D archery range for a fun morning of archery! Equipment and instruction will be provided by the park. There will be an additional state park entrance fee.
- September 7
Apple Harvest at Wasatch Mountain State Park - By far our most popular outing, join us at Huber Grove in Wasatch Mountain State Park for an apple harvest! Our permit is only for 16 people ages 10 and over (children under 10 are free) so space is limited.
- October 5
George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Wildlife Education Center Tour - We will be visiting the brand new nature center at Farmington Bay! Meet a DNR staff member to learn about the wild species that depend on the wetlands for survival.
- November 2
Winter Photography Lesson - Grab your camera and join us for a morning of winter photography. Learn different techniques on how to capture the perfect nature photograph!
- December 7
Jordan River Parkway Walking Tour - Join UHZ’s Conservation Action Coordinator for a stroll along the Jordan River. We will be discussing the roles of urban rivers, invasive species, and habitat restoration. We will also be keeping an eye out for winter bird residents!
