Mesmerizing messages, sport science and even engineering. Every day is a different field to explore as we pursue new and exciting experiments to conduct!

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Mad Science Summer Camps are 3-hour day camps.  Children ages 6-12 do hands-on science experiments with a specific theme for each camp.  The program provides all the supplies participants will need for their on-site experiments* and activities they can take home.  Participants are encouraged to bring a snack and water bottle.

*This camp does have a chromatography experiment: participants can bring an old shirt or a cloth to color as an optional variation on the activity.

The daily themes for this camp will be as follows:

Super Strong Shapes - Experiment with the strengths and weaknesses of triangles, squares, cylinders and so on. Discover how shapes shape the success of structures and assemble some shifting shape puzzles to take home.

Mad Messages - Catch a glimpse of visual effects that’ll flip your brain: color-changing electrolysis, halftones, secret messages, and more.  Build filters to catch clues you’d otherwise not notice!

Radical Reactions - Fizzy bath-bombs, home-made chalk, soil-moist… Get ready for reactions so radical they’ll leave you tongue-tied and dyeing to color some concoctions of your own creation.

Science of Sport - Strap on your helmets, pads, and cleats and get ready to intercept this line-drive into the science on sports drinks, stretching, and protective equipment.  Test your reflexes and catch a step-counting pedometer.

Space - The final frontier, or the frontier that’s finally here? Learn to look for life on other planets and experiment with different types of rockets and propulsion.  Build a Planisphere and take a look to the stars!
