2018 Summer Camps for Fourth and Fifth Graders

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 08/17/2018
The Natural History Museum of Utah has an amazing selection of natural science and STEAM-related camps lined up for your child entering fourth or fifth grades this fall!

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Click here to register. NHMU fourth and fifth grade camp sessions are for students who will enter either of these grades in the fall of 2018. For Partner Camp listings, where needed, transportation between sites is provided. Please note that not all school districts begin and end summer break at the same time—check your school schedule before registering.

Here's some examples of our camps designed for fourth and fifth graders:

  • Great Salt Lake Discoveries for Girls Only — Ladies, the Great Salt Lake is ours to discover! With staff from FRIENDS of GSL, you’ll investigate the cool and unique ecosystem at the Great Salt Lake, from brine shrimp to water bugs and everything in-between. We’ll visit places like Antelope Island and Farmington Bay, conduct salty experiments, chew pickle weed, and watch birds through binoculars. We are investigators, adventurous, and love being outside.
  • Engineering Challenge with LEGO® — Power up your engineering skills! With the guidance of Museum staff, campers will explore simple and complex machines each morning. They’ll then put that new knowledge to work as they complete team challenges using VEX IQ robotic components. Afternoons will find campers with Play-Well staff inventing, designing, and building with over 100,000 pieces of LEGO®. We’ll explore large-scale building machines like steamrollers, bulldozers, wrecking balls, and tower cranes.
  • The Ultimate Camp Experience — If you can only attend one camp this summer, make it this one! Join us for a week of signature camp activities where each day finds campers at a different location with new experiences. While at Camp Kostopulos students will enjoy ropes courses, spending time with the horses, rock climbing, and fishing. At Red Butte Garden, campers will have a plethora of garden adventures while exploring everything from plants to insects. At This is the Place we’ll investigate Utah's past pioneer history through train rides, panning for gold, and pioneer activities. Discover and meet some of the animals that call Utah’s Hogle Zoo home. And, while at the Natural History Museum of Utah, explore the Museum and our collections while participating in hands-on science. One week has never been so exciting!
  • Dynamic Universe — Journey through the galaxy and explore the mysteries of Earth and space. While at NHMU each morning, campers will investigate the powerful processes that sculpt our Earth from weathering to the water cycle. We’ll also explore rocks and minerals, create volcanoes and earthquakes, and meet some of the astronomers working at the University of Utah. Each afternoon while at the Clark Planetarium, learn about the planets, stars and constellations while enjoying other spaced-out projects and activities.

Price and duration of camps vary. See individual listings. Click here to visit our website to see a complete listing of camps for fourth and fifth graders and register.
