Created in 2013, the non-profit HealthCode launched the Million Mile Month virtual fitness event to improve the physical activity, a key component of a healthy lifestyle, in an engaging, supportive and fun way.
Since then, over 20,000 participants from 13 countries and 175 organizations have stepped up and taken the Million Mile Month challenge.
You can join the Million Mile Month community now. Registration is open at http://millionmilemonth.org/register/4, and registration levels range from FREE - $50.
The idea is simple, you complete physical activity at a time and place that is convenient for you, logging your activity or miles on MillionMileMonth.org. You can win prizes and compete with those in your company, your family or community.
Millions of people die each year from diseases like heart disease, diabetes, obesity and certain forms of cancer, that can, in many cases, be prevented. In the U.S. alone, $3 trillion a year is being spent on health care. 75% of these costs go toward treating preventable diseases, while only 3% is being spent on preventative initiatives and programs. If that isn’t scary enough, childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years. There has never been a more important time than RIGHT NOW to bring physical activity back into our family lives.
