Fix-It Clinic
SEPTEMBER 23 @ 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
YOU’VE HEARD OF THEE THREE RS: REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE; BUT OUR FAVORITE R IS REPAIR!
Do you have a box of items stashed in your garage full of perfectly good items that you can’t bear to throw away because all they need is a little TLC? Before your house starts looking like it should be featured on an episode of Hoarders, grab your broken toaster, torn favorite blanket, flat bike tire, or any other repairable item and join The Leonardo, Utah Recycling Alliance, Great Salt Make, and Clever Octopus for our quarterly Fix-It Clinic!
Fix-It Clinics are designed to empower participants to become better stewards of their material belongings. Participants bring in a broken item that they would like to learn how to repair (clothing, small carpentry items, small appliances, bikes, small electronics) and get to work side-by-side with an experienced Repair Coach. Participants will be paired up with the appropriate Repair Coach (based on the broken item they brought in).
Participants will also learn how to navigate helpful, free DYI websites. Tools will be provided for use; however, participants are encouraged, but not required, to bring their own tools so they can learn how to properly use them. Participants are also encouraged to dress appropriately for working on their selected broken item (safety glasses, glove, closed toe shoes, and work pants and shirts).
Drop in at any time. Participants will be helped in order of when they arrive and based on when the best suited Coach is available.
- Saturday, Sept 23, 2017 from 11am-2pm.
- Saturday, Nov 18, 2017 from 11am-2pm.
- Future dates are TBA, but will be held about once per quarter.
Participants of all ages are invited! However, all youth under age 12 must be accompanied by legal guardian/parent. The first 40 participants who show up at the museum on the day of the clinic with a broken item they want to repair will receive 50% off one admissions ticket. (Limit of one discount per person with a broken item.) General admission applies to all other participants and adults accompanying youth under age 12. General admissions guests are welcome to observe the clinic in action, but due to space limitations, only clinic participants and their family will be allowed into the space.
