2018 Summer Camps for Sixth–Eighth Graders

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 08/17/2018
The Natural History Museum of Utah has an amazing selection of natural science and STEAM-related camps lined up for your child entering sixth, seventh, or eighth grade this fall!

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Click here to register. NHMU sixth through eighth grade camp sessions are for students who will enter 6th, 7th or 8th grades in the fall of 2018. For Partner Camp listings, where needed, transportation between sites is provided. Please note that not all school districts begin summer break at the same time—check your school schedule before registering.

Here's some examples of our camps designed for sixth–eighth graders:

  • Game Design and Robotics — Robotics and game design, what could be better?! Participants will spend part of their day under the guidance of Museum staff, exploring simple and complex machines. They’ll then put that new knowledge to work as they complete team challenges using VEX IQ robotic components. The other part of the day will be spent at Spy Hop, learning the ins and outs of coding and game design.
  • Adventure Camp — It’s the best of both worlds! While at the Museum, we’ll unleash your inner geek as we explore the Bonneville Shoreline Trail while using GPS units, investigate macro- and micro-invertebrates and pH testing along with forensic science. Afternoons will focus on your wild side as you spend time at Camp K participating in outdoor camp activities like hiking, rock climbing, swimming, spending time with the horses, field games, climbing ropes courses, and fishing.
  • The Ultimate Camp Experience — If you can only attend one camp this summer, make it this one! Join us for a week of signature camp activities where each day finds campers at a different location with new experiences. While at Camp Kostopulos students will enjoy ropes courses, spending time with the horses, rock climbing, and fishing. At Red Butte Garden, campers will have a plethora of garden adventures while exploring everything from plants to insects. At This is the Place we’ll investigate Utah's past pioneer history through train rides, panning for gold, and pioneer activities. Discover and meet some of the animals that call Utah’s Hogle Zoo home. And, while at the Natural History Museum of Utah, explore the Museum and our collections while participating in hands-on science. One week has never been so exciting!
  • Art with Power Tools — Art + power tools = loads of fun! Campers will learn to use power tools safely and build 3D sculptures using power tools and materials destined for the landfill. We will explore a variety of wood-and-rope puzzle toys…. and then learn to build our own. Using our new power tool skills and safety knowledge, we will create a big piece to display in a public place! Come prepared to be outside each day under shade tents—We promise, we'll keep cool with plenty of water and squirt guns.

Price and duration of camps vary. See individual listings. Click here to visit our website to see a complete listing of camps for sixth–eighth grades and register.
