*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 08/17/2018
The Natural History Museum of Utah has an amazing selection of natural science and STEAM-related Summer Camps lined up for your child entering first grade this fall!

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Click here to register. NHMU first grade camps are for children who will enter the first grade in the fall of 2018. Register for a morning or an afternoon session. OR, register for both sessions, making it a full day experience! Time between morning and afternoon sessions will be spent eating a lunch brought from home and exploring outside with Museum staff. Please note that not all school districts begin and end summer break at the same time—check your school schedule before registering.

Here's some examples of our camps designed for first graders:

  • LEGO® Engineering — Join us for a week of engineering bliss! Mornings will be spent with Museum staff, tinkering with toys, learning about simple machines, exploring with roller coasters, and building marble mazes. Afternoons will be spent under the tutelage of Play-Well staff, developing engineering skills utilizing thousands of LEGO® components while building engineer-designed projects such as boats, snowmobiles, catapults, and merry-go-rounds.
  • Dino Lab — The Natural History Museum of Utah is world famous for our dinosaur research! Come investigate dinosaurs and their Mesozoic world. Explore the differences between meat and plant eating dinosaurs, make dino tracks, learn about new dinosaur discoveries, and get a tour of the Paleontology Lab and Past Worlds Gallery. This camp is sure to excite the dinosaur lover in the family!
  • Artful Science — Art and science go hand-in-hand in this week of exploration. We’ll investigate soil science as we create works of art, investigate plants while creating flower paintings, and go on a color scavenger hunt. Campers will also study engineering and the design process, make magic milk, and explore nature. At the end of each day, we'll welcome Sarah Bly, certified Kidding Around Yoga Instructor, who will be adding music and movement to our experience.
  • Jr. Naturalists — Explore the natural world with Red Butte Garden and the Natural History Museum! Spend the first part of the day at Red Butte looking at the Garden up close and personal. We’ll get on our hands and knees as we explore the Garden from a new perspective each day, whether from that of an ant or raccoon. While at NHMU each afternoon, we’ll investigate the natural processes that surround us from the changing of the seasons and the rock cycle to the growth of plants and the water cycle.

Price and duration of camps vary. See individual listings. Click here to visit our website to see a complete listing of camps for first graders and register.
